Petroleum Technology

The use of seismic modelling in the petroleum industry is increasing, and NORSAR has made a strategic decision to focus on those applications for which we have noted a strong interest among current and potential users. NORSAR develops applications partly as software packages (NORSAR-2D/3D/SeisRoX) and partly as services. To maintain the position in the technology forefront within our field, considerable resources are devoted to research activities. Due to our well established product strategy, the results of the research projects have a short way to the customers.

To day’s research within petroleum related seismic modelling goes far beyond the traditional goal of generating synthetic data. Strong emphasis is currently on modelling based imaging, elastic inversion, tomography, rock physics inversion, and 4D seismic analysis. Wrapped into the latest computer and 3D visualization technology, most of the new developments will soon appear in the NORSAR product portfolio.
