International Activities

Because of the uniqueness of the large seismic array built in 1968, NORSAR very early (in the 1970’s) became a meeting place and research arena for scientists from many countries of the world. NORSAR has maintained this international reputation over time and still attracts both people and projects. More than 1/3 of the permanent research staff at NORSAR is of foreign origin, and in numerous international projects financed by organizations such as the European Commission, the US Department of Energy, the US department of Defence, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and others, a tight visitors program is organized and serviced by the NORSAR administration.

NORSAR’s position as an internationally leading developer of methods and software for petroleum exploration is well established. Research projects funded by the Research Council of Norway and co-financed by the international petroleum industry secure relevance and quality for this increasingly important part of NORSAR’s international activity.

The wholly owned subsidiary NORSAR Innovation AS  supports a network of offices, distributors, agents and representatives for the promotion of NORSAR research, software and services.
