Unidentified events during 2006-2007

Since 1990, the NORSAR regional monitoring system has recorded a number of small, unidentified seismic events on and near Novaya Zemlya. Some of the more recent events are shown in the figure below.

The map shows seismic events near Novaya Zemlya that have been
recorded by NORSAR’s systems during 2006 and 2007. The ellipses
denote the 90% uncertainty in the estimated locations.
