New book on the CTBT with author from NORSAR

Svein Mykkeltveit, program coordinator at NORSAR, has co-authored a book entitled Nuclear Test Ban - Converting Political Visions to Reality recently published by Springer. The other authors are Ola Dahlman (Sweden) and Hein Haak (the Netherlands). The book was presented to the public on 26 February 2009 at a reception in Vienna, Austria, hosted by the ambassador of Sweden, see CTBTO press centre for more info. The foreign ministers of the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden have written the book's foreword.

The book describes efforts over a time span of more than 50 years to negotiate and subsequently implement a Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. The authors have been intimately involved with this work for more than 25 years, and they give their personal assessments of the results achieved from a political, technical and managerial perspective.

The main part of the book is devoted to the efforts over the last 12 years by the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization to implement the most extensive verification regime ever created. The book, written in layman's language, is intended for anyone with an interest in arms control and disarmament, and more specifically for professionals in political, scientific, diplomatic and military areas.
