NORSAR cooperation with Kyrgyzstan and neighboring countries on earthquake hazard and risk

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway finances a cooperation project between NORSAR and institutions in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan with possible involvement also from Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. These countries are different in political and societal conditions, but they all share the common problem of a high earthquake activity. While earthquakes cannot be prevented the related disasters can. The present institutional cooperation aims to build knowledge and understanding that can be applied in practical risk reducing actions.
