Innovation

Innovation at NORSAR is closely linked with an internal software product strategy. The idea behind this strategy is to create a viable research infrastructure by incorporating scientific methods and results in durable software products, which in turn can be the source of revenues supporting further research.

The plan of operation of NORSAR (2006-2010) states that a main goal for the institute is to strengthen NORSAR as a leading developer of advanced methods and software products for the petroleum industry by adapting new, innovative applications for the whole seismic value chain. The long term objective is substantial growth in the research and software product development for this sector.

The wholly owned subsidiary NORSAR Innovation AS is instrumental in achieving this goal. The current objective of NORSAR Innovation is to develop professional, mercantile competence for marketing and sale of software, and thereby provide the funds necessary for further growth in the method- and software development activities at NORSAR.
