Projects

Projects relating to the verification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) comprise the largest part of NORSAR's activities in seismology. The majority of such projects are performed under contracts with US agencies, the CTBT organization in Vienna, as well as for the Norwegian Department for Foreign Affairs.

EU-projects are increasingly important for NORSARs research aiming at improving the societal security relating to geohazards. Focus on sustainable and environmentally friendly energy consumption is expected to generate future projects relating to geothermal energy solutions under national as well as international funding. International contracts are obtained in strong competition with other organizations.

Historically, projects under The Research Council of Norway programs have been the backbone for NORSAR’s petroleum oriented research. Augmented by national as well as international industry projects, a combination of basic and applied research thus provide an excellent platform for new ideas and improved methods in petroleum exploration.
