NORSAR launches integration of Standard Norway's seismic maps into NORSAR's Zoning Map portal
NORSAR has this week launched new functionality in the Zoning Map service that provides digital access to Standard Norway's maps of ground acceleration values in accordance with Eurocode 8.
Standard Norway's map of basic acceleration values agR (PGA) for municipalities in Norway in accordance with Eurocode 8 (NS-EN 1998-1:2004+A1:2013+NA:2021) is now available on NORSAR’s Site Classification Map portal.
The solution is the result of a collaboration between NORSAR and Standard Norway and contributes to the further digitalisation of Norwegian standards. With the new integration, users have access to two complementary mapping solutions for seismic data in one single service:
-
Site Classification Map, NORSAR’s earthquake site classification map for Norway, which provides point analyses for all locations on the mainland and Svalbard for multiple return periods (475, 2475 and 10,000 years)
-
Standard Norway’s map from the National Annex to NS-EN 1998 (Eurocode 8).
The integration makes it easier to:
-
Compare the maps and utilise the available additional functions in Site Classification Map, such as calculation of exclusion criteria, elastic response spectra, and design spectrum
-
Reduce manual lookups and interpretation work
-
Use the Site Classification Map as a comprehensive tool for seismic assessments in the early phases of projects
The functionality is available to all users of the portal as of this week.
The collaboration with Standard Norway also includes competence building: the Eurocode 8 course has for years been organised by NORSAR, and in 2025 was conducted in cooperation with Standard Norway.
