This week, NORSAR is attending Working Group B (WGB65) in Vienna, one of the technical working groups of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO).

Last week saw the start of the 65th session of Working Group B (WGB) in Vienna. The technical working group is one of the governing bodies of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO) and brings together the 187 states that have signed the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.

This week, discussions continue under WGB65, where NORSAR is represented. Among other things, discussions focus on how to maintain, further develop and operate the global network of stations that constitute the treaty's verification regime. The network consists of approximately 300 stations worldwide, and Norway has six of these, which are operated by NORSAR.

NORSAR contributes expertise in seismology and the monitoring of earthquakes and explosions. We have several representatives who are actively involved in ensuring the further development of the verification regime.

Here, over 1,000 participants from the fields of science, technology, politics and academia will gather to strengthen the verification regime of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). NORSAR will participate with both lectures and technical contributions in a broad international forum where researchers and experts meet to discuss the latest scientific and technological advances related to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.
