Facilities

NORSAR Science Park @Stendammen is located in a quiet forest setting in Løten and provides an excellent environment for R&D activities, experimental projects, and instrument testing.

The main building at NORSAR Science Park @Stendammen offers facilities to support research needs. Inside, there is an electronics workshop, a small mechanical workshop, office space, room to install equipment for tests, and a UPS for critical equipment. Additionally, comfortable accommodation for two people is available for longer research stays.

There is a garage for handling and storing larger equipment and a Long Period Vault (LPV). The LPV is a low-noise, underground sensor vault housing a small selection of both seismic and infrasound sensors for reference, accompanied by decades of historic data, one available shallow sensor well with a diameter of 1 m and a depth of 45 cm for instruments, with power and network access.

Enhanced research capabilities with NORES and NORFOX

The NORES seismic and infrasound array consists of 16 seismic and 9 infrasound sensors in a ring configuration spanning a diameter of 1.5 km. In addition, there are 9 empty vaults in a 3 km diameter outer ring. All NORES sensor vaults are located underground (2.5 m deep and 1.8 m in diameter), powered (48 Vdc), and have a fiber optic communication to the main building and can accommodate additional equipment.

NORFOX, is a dedicated Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing (DFOS) test site. The innovative 3 km diameter, curved 5-arm geometry, and engineered fiberoptic cable for enhanced distributed acoustic sensing (DAS), colocation of NORES and configurational flexibility as well as availability puts it in the forefront of permanent DFOS-facilities on the international research scene.
