The course was organized for five engineers from the Adaptation and Risk Reduction Division, Department of Engineering Services, settled in Thimphu, Bhutan.

NORSAR has proposed a detailed training program with the objective to guide and help the Bhutanese engineers to conduct seismic risk analysis, through:

  • providing basic principles for development,
  • proper assignment of vulnerability functions (fragility curves) to buildings,
  • conduct seismic risk analysis based on potential earthquake scenarios,
  • generate GIS-based seismic risk maps.

The course was very intense and different earthquake scenario-based risk evaluations have been carried out for three different districts in Bhutan (Punakha, Paro and Trashiyangtse) using SELENA software. The atmosphere was very nice, and the visitors were very pleased about the course.
